The founder

Barry Taylor was educated at the universities of Sussex, Oxford and Exeter and holds a Master of Arts degree in English.

After two years as a teacher of English he spent a decade in the arts, working for the Globe Theatre project in London, the Oxford Playhouse, the Arts Council and major local authorities in the East Midlands and Wales.

For the next 14 years he led the corporate communications function at Bristol City Council. He also worked on projects aimed at strengthening local democracy in Bristol and in Beira, Bristol's twin city in Mozambique.

From 2000 to 2010 he was Director of Communications and Marketing at the University of Bristol. In 2009 he also project-managed the university’s ambitious centenary celebrations. He was elected to serve on the board of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in the US from 2008 to 2010.

Much as he loved his time at the university, he decided to take the plunge in 2010 and set up Taylor Words.
